VOCATIONAL EVALUATOR / ASSESSOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Vocational Evaluator/Assessor preferably holds a Master's Degree in the area of work evaluation, counseling, psychology, rehabilitation, or associated specialty. A Bachelor's Degree in a similar field, with a minimum of 16 college units in Career Counseling and related areas is acceptable if fully bilingual in Spanish. Certification as a Certified Vocational Evaluator Specialist (CVE) or a Professional Vocational Evaluator (PVE) is a primary asset, and should be applied for whenever possible. Classes in career counseling are required.
Expectations include consistent attendance at counseling/vocational rehabilitation related seminars, conferences, and workshops. Additionally, the evaluator should be aware of laws, rules and regulations that influence outcomes of career counseling and vocational evaluations. The evaluator should possess a high level of observational ability, attention to detail, the ability to work quickly and accurately with large groups, the ability to memorize normal verbal instructions, the ability to perform all of the Vocational Technician's duties, the ability to professionally interact with case managers, counselors/attorneys/claims adjustors/clients in a one-on-one or group presentation.
Ability to travel to and work at many company locations when requested (at minimum within a 60 mile radius of the worksite) is a requirement. Ability to type a minimum of 25 correct words per minute and full knowledge of Word software, Microsoft windows, and Outlook e-mail. Physical requirements (as generally categorized under "light" physical demands) include standing and/or walking for extended periods of time (up to two continuous hours), sitting for up to two continuous hours, typing up to two hours (with recommended breaks), lifting up to twenty pounds, extensive reaching and handling, talking and hearing. Ownership and daily availability of an automobile and a personal cell phone.
DUTIES / JOB ASSIGNMENTS INCLUDE:
Career guidance of participants/clients, including development of employment plans;
Taking behavioral observations and recording behavior patterns of client's physical tolerances, stamina, endurance, worker traits, skill levels, aptitudes and interests;
Administering, scoring, and interpreting all psychometric tests and work sample results;
Planning and presenting exit/staffing conferences with participants and counselors;
Interpreting specific vocational data to the client on a regular basis;
Identifying learning disabilities and recommendations of reasonable accommodations;
Coordinating all specific needs of the individual client, scheduling of exit conference, scheduling of orientation (if needed), and any/all duties as related to that individual client;
Utilizing all assistive devices, modifications and adaptive equipment necessary to obtain the highest physical tolerance reading available per individualized client;
Maintaining expertise and full knowledge in the areas of norms utilized per individual psychometric, work sample and index;
Proofing and ascertaining complete correctness of client reports prior to the exit conferences;
Knowledge of Word processing software and ability to type shorter reports for WIA, CalWORKs, etc;
Generating computerized transferable skills analysis and other computerized vocational exploration and\ informational programs.
Maintaining a knowledge of the company's in-house reference materials such as the Director's Log, Reference Books, Safety Manual, etc;
Ascertaining that all scores from the vocational technician are correct, accurate and obtained in a timely fashion;
Conducting initial interviews and orientations with clients in a timely fashion;
Maintaining responsibility for the correct planning, functional completion and reporting of the assessment process for each client at all times during their entire stay at the work evaluation center;
Making cost efficient and time effective use of clerical and technician staff; and
Attending all quarterly Evaluator Training sessions, and during the first year of employment attend all quarterly Vocational Technician Training Sessions.
